Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes (French, 1884-1974) was a writer, performer, and artist famous for his machine pictures and explosive Dada performances. He made the acquaintance of Marcel Duchamp in 1909 and became involved in the circle of artists that included Albert Gleizes, Jean Metzinger, and Fernand Léger, among others. Later, he was the secretary of the Paris Dada movement, and his writing was frequently published in Littérature in the early 1920s. During this period, he was photographed by Man Ray both individually and as part of the Paris Dada group. Later, with the dissolution of Dada, Ribemont-Dessaignes refused to join up with the Surrealists and instead became a dissenting voice on the outside of its ranks.
