Conceived in 1936/37 and executed in 2007 in an edition of 12. The present work is number 4 from the edition and was executed in 2007. In the mid-1930s Oppenheim designed a number of pieces of jewelry including rings, bracelets, necklaces and pendants. Some of these designs were made for the first time four decades later, in the 1970s, while others were realized posthumously according to the artist's sketches and instructions. A witty example from Oppenheim's oeuvre, Sugar Cube Ring combines her whimsical, fantastical ideas with the commonplace of an everyday object, juxtaposing the perishable nature of a sugar cube with the longevity of silver.
