Conceived in 1969 and executed in a first edition of 25 and a second edition of 300 with tags inscribed by the artist. The present group of eight flowers comes from the edition of 300, and are numbered 150/300, 158/300, 201/300, 226/300, 234/300, 282/300, 283/300, and 286/300. This work was conceived for Art Mart in Kloten, Switzerland for which various artists were invited to make a work of art and sell it for exactly twice its production cost. In typical fashion, Oppenheim created Hafer-Blumen by covering something with something else, in the same vein as her infamous 1936 work Object. The later edition of 300 was made for a 1969 exhibition at Galerie Claude Givaudan in Paris.
