Conceived in 1960. The present work was executed in 1969 and is 61/100 from an edition of 100, numbered 1/100-100/100, for La Medusa Gráfica in Rome and is based on a prototype executed in 1969 which currently resides in the collection of Kunstmuseum Bern. This aptly Surrealist work combines a squirrel’s tail and a beer stein. Confronting gender expectations and inverting stereotypes, Oppenheim covers the stiff upright handle of a beer glass with a floppy and furry animal tail. This witty combination is a tribute to Oppenheim’s commitment to challenge conformity.
