Executed on June 19, 1975. Marcel Märien deconstructed everyday objects from our environment to create unexpected and bizarre combinations. This assemblage, with the elusive title Paraphrase is comprised of a green racquet with three small balls mounted to a blue backing. Märien’s title and presentation of seemingly banal objects is reminiscent of André Breton’s Surrealist assemblages and Joseph Cornell’s shadowboxes that were inspired by dreams.
