Lucio Fontana cleverly incorporates two of his signature gestures, that of his cuts, i tagli, and punctuating holes, i buchi, in his 1967 sculptural pair Concetto spaziale, Natura. These elegant bronzes bear evidence of his controlled yet forceful interventions and whose polished patina provides an illuminated reflective light. Fontana worked in a variety of media, processes, and formats: these ovoid-shaped sculptures refer to his infamous series of egg-shaped canvases La Fine di Dio (The End of God), 1960s, in both shape and significance, that of recurring lifecycles of nature and violence.
