Executed in 2011 in an edition of 8 plus 4 artist proofs. The present work is number 8 from the edition.
Dutch-Croatian-Indonesian designer Sebastian Brajkovic strives to explore the intersection between art and design while investigating perspective and distortion. The Lathe series focuses on the artist’s long standing fascination with rotation; as exemplified by Lathe Console, the work appears to be spinning within and without the wall. The undulating layers visualize the suggested rotation of the work. Through this concept, Brajkovic presents a functional and aesthetically balanced work of art. Whereas many other works by the artist play on the combustion of structure and balance, Lathe Console displays a harmonious form, symmetrical by design and gracious in function.
