Executed in 2013 in an edition of 8 plus 4 artist proofs. The present work is number 3 from the edition. Known for his eponymous fashion line, Rick Owens’ creativity spans further than his avant-garde clothing designs. Alongside his partner, Michèle Lamy, Owens opened his atelier in Paris where he continues to show bi-annually in Paris for Fashion Week. In July 2005 the couple turned their attention to furniture design focusing on raw materials, heavily influenced by modernist designer Eileen Gray and sculptor Constantin Brancusi. Owens’ dark, minimalist style has been celebrated internationally, and his work shown at major institutions including the Le Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.

The present piece is a masterful realization of the essence of volume and grace. Executed in white marble sivec, this table commands an audience. Owens takes this quotidian domiciliary object and gives it a sense of monumentality; rather than presented as furniture, Plug Table has a strong, sculptural appearance.
