Vieira da Silva continued to paint into her final years, and her late works reveal new modes of expression. Vers la lumière portrays a vertical propulsion not found in her post-war paintings. The checkered spaces and interior architecture are abandoned here, as the artist creates a novel sense of space and movement. These late works reify light and reflection, no longer relying on the structures of perspective that characterized much of her post-war oeuvre. Vieira da Silva remained in Paris, working actively until her death in 1992, the year after she painted Vers la lumière.Exhibitions
